Communications Officer

Position:         Innovation for Change Central Asia Communications Officer

Location:        Almaty

Conditions:     Full-time, 9 months (April 15, 2018 with possible extension of 1 year).

Context:          Innovation for Change Central Asia is a regional initiative by civil society leaders in seven countries (Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan). Its goal is to establish a regional Innovation Hub for civil society. The Innovation Hub is intended to turn into a think tank and knowledge provider that enables Central Asian civil society to work more innovatively, to learn from each other, and to strengthen their capacity to work together with other partners in government, private sector, etc., towards long-term changes and improvements of living standards in Central Asian countries.

The main thematic lines of work of the regional Innovation Hub are:

  1. knowledge and innovation management;
  2.  strengthening the role of Civil Society as a provider of expert knowledge on the challenges faced by Central Asian countries; and
  3. strengthening cooperation and trust between Civil Society and governments.


Civil Society is understood broadly, including not just Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), but everybody who wants to effect changes that bring society forward, including experts, active citizens, and private sector representatives, and also government officials and others.

It is part of a global initiative where other Innovation Hubs, with their own thematic focus and direction, are established in other parts of the world such as East and South Asia, Africa, Latin America, etc.



  • Update, maintain and implement Communications Strategy;
  • Provide PR, communication and information support services to Innovation for Change Central Asia and its incubators, staff, and partners, building solidarity across social movements within Central Asia, and encouraging diverse participation in the expansion of civic spaces with partners from civil society, independent experts, business and government institutions;
  • Develop institutional communication mechanisms to exchange news and knowledge about civic innovation in Central Asia;
  • Update news and create success stories through platform and other social media resources;
  • Involve I4C Central Asia network members into publications on Global and Regional levels;
  • Support Innovation for Change Central Asia internal communication and instruments;
  • Create marketing and branding guidelines;
  • Encourage out-of-the-box ideas, across all pillars, challenges, external communications and stakeholder engagement;
  • Communicate with donors regularly according to reporting requirements as well as separately;
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Required skills:

  • Work experience in a field thematically related to I4C, such as communication, civil society, innovation management, social entrepreneurship, citizen engagement or new technologies;
  • Strong experience and skills in communications and marketing;
  • Personal interest in innovation;
  • Affinity towards technology and technological communication solutions, social media, applied media technologies and visual design, knowledge of relevant IT products;
  • Ability to work independently in a solution-oriented way;
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Excellent command of Russian, good spoken and written English.
